How F-One implemented a workflow bot to report into clients legacy invoice factoring software in only 4 weeks

Cordada, based in Santiago, Chile, provides financial solutions for lenders and fintechs that service SMEs in Latin America, with $3bn of deployed capital and 5.5k impacted SMEs. Some of its high-volume processes for business operations in Chile involve legacy invoice factoring software, which comes with a high manual workload that can only be performed through a graphical user interface.

“We have substantial in-house expertise in software development and also have done some projects on UiPath and Robocorp, but for our first production RPA application, we wanted to partner with external experts to be safe with business-critical automations. With F-ONE, we could check all the boxes, including agile development approach, expertise with Robocorp and Camunda, and experience with high-volume automations” – says Nicolás Kriman Fernández, COO at Cordada.

While F-ONE is based in Europe and Cordada operates in Chile, the teams were able to work together seamlessly. The first automation was developed for production readiness within 4 weeks after the NDA signing, and most of this time was devoted to comprehensive testing.

“We are talking about business-critical, high-volume automations, and comprehensive testing is key before the robot is deployed. We have worked together with Cordada’s team to address automated testing, failure-handling, and monitoring capabilities, which makes for a very robust solution” – Alessandro Mosca, Chief Engineer at F-ONE.

The final solution was developed and tested to handle known and potential exceptions from the legacy system. The robot is built to report directly to a workflow engine (e.g., Camunda), providing additional transparency and traceability on the work-item level even for a process with close to 100,000 annual work items.

I have followed this project closely together with Nicolás, as we see Robotic Process Automation as key for replacing all manual interactions with that legacy software and putting them behind an API, and perhaps complement our in-house software development initiatives with low-code robots that deliver business value quickly. One could see that F-ONE has put much work into the project, and it was delivered very professionally and ahead of plan. Our software team enjoyed the interactive tutorial format of the final delivery, which we also recorded as video documentation for later reference

Germán Larraín Muñoz, CTO at Cordada

Based on the success of the initial joint project, Cordada’s team is looking forward to continue developing RPA robots to complete the automation of all the interactions with that legacy software and integrate them with their business process orchestration platform.
